In Vedic astrology, your life unfolds in long planetary chapters called Mahadashas. In this one-hour workshop, you’ll look up the chapter you’re in now and use its themes as a doorway into your writing. 

You’ll find out whether you’re at the start, middle, or end of your Mahadasha, choose three keywords from your planet, and write from two prompts shaped by where you are. Whether you write poetry, fiction, or memoir, you’ll leave with fresh pages and an ongoing way to find new doorways into your writing. No astrology experience needed! 

Bring: your birth date, place of birth, and exact birth time if you have it  and something to write with.

This is an auspicious time to take this workshop!

This workshop lands just as Venus and Mercury come out of retrograde. In Vedic astrology, Mercury governs language, thought, and communication, and Venus governs love, beauty, and what we value. When both planets turn direct, the months of revisiting, second-guessing, and circling back give way to forward movement. It’s a fitting moment to put words on the page, and to ask which chapter of your own life you’re writing from. Both planets are also Mahadasha rulers, so their keywords may also resonate with you.

Instructor Bio:
Jyoti Devi Roy (she/her) is a writer and editor with more than 20 years of experience in the publishing world. Originally from Australia, she co-founded Beating Hearts Press, which released and distributed books, zines, and music across Australia, New Zealand, and Indonesia. After moving to Portland  in 2008 she earned a Master’s degree in Writing and Book Publishing, was the prose editor for the literary journal Portland Review and taught at Portland State University. Her writing has appeared in numerous print and online publications including Bitch, Calyx, and Feminist Review. Newly initiated into Vedic Astrology studies, she comes from a lineage of teachers and practitioners of Sanatana Dharma traditions.
